Product Description
From his days in the now legendary punk/alt-country outfits The Nuns, Rank and File and his own True Believers, to his glowingly received solo gems including 2008's Real Animal, Escovedo has built a rapturous underground following among fans, songwriting peers and critics alike. His highly anticipated Fantasy Records debut, Street Songs of Love, is a 13-track celebration of survival, liberation and ultimate salvation.

4 out of 5 stars out of his depression   August 25, 2010
blue rider (podunck,tx)
This is an interesting change of pace for Alejandro....it is good to see him out of his depression and changing his sound. I do miss his strings, but with him you never know he may have them backing him on this. Can't wait to see him perform some of these live.....he is such an incredible live performer.
I like this ALMOST as much as some of his other stuff Real Animal, With These Hands and Gravity are just awesome pieces of work, but I think this may be as good just in a different vein.
Great music from a great musician.

3 out of 5 stars OK Rock n' Roll   August 13, 2010

I've been hearing a lot about this artist on my local radio station but really hadn't listened to his music all that much. So I bought this CD based on the reviews and listened to it a few times. It doesn't do much for me. Yes - it's ok rock n' roll but nothing really outstanding.

4 out of 5 stars STREET SONGS OF LOVE   August 11, 2010

This is a fine follow up to Alejandro Escovedo's previous album, Real Animal. Whereas Real Animal slapped you on the face to get your attention, Street Songs of Love is a bit more subtle; tapping you on the shoulder. Worry not. AE still rocks hard when he needs to. If you are fan, nothing here will disappoint. The moods are mixed, the playing is hot, and as always, the lyrics are personal and first rate. If you are not a fan, this is as good a place as any to start to explore the man's music. AE hasn't made a bad record, and shows no signs of starting now.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece   August 7, 2010

From the opening notes straight through to the end this is a gem. Masterful songwriting delivered with an incredible range of emotion, musicianship and energy. It runs the gamut from heartbreaking to biting: Anchor, Fall Apart With You, Down On The Bowery, Silver Cloud, This Bed is Getting Crowded are brilliant songs on a classic album. Anyone who appreciates a great work of art should own this. Since it came out I've been listening non-stop along with Peter Wolf's Midnight Souvenir's another treasure.
